This 1987 Sabre 42 is a centerboard sloop built on the proven Roger Hewson design. Hand-laid fiberglass construction with 8,200 pounds of lead ballast gives her solid seaworthiness, while the shoal-draft configuration—drawing 4'9" with the board up and 8'6" board down—allows access to shallow anchorages without sacrificing offshore performance. A Westerbeke 46-horsepower diesel drives her comfortably at around 7 knots, paired with a three-blade feathering MaxProp and Aquadrive thrust system.
The interior layout centers on two cabins and two heads, finished in teak with teak-and-holly sole. An L-shaped galley, dedicated navigation station, refrigeration, hot water system, and thorough ventilation support extended cruising. A Fischer Panda generator, Dometic air conditioning, and solar panels provide shore independence.
Canvas and rigging reflect serious cruising capability: Doyle mainsail, roller-furling genoa, asymmetric spinnaker with sock, and multiple sails including storm inventory. Harken MKIII furler and Navtec rod rigging support the rig. Navigation and safety electronics include Garmin chartplotters, B&G autopilot, depth and speed instrumentation, wind data, and AIS transponder. An electric windlass and full ground tackle complete the deck systems.
Recent mechanical work includes a new alternator, new oil pressure sending unit, and repaired transmission linkage. The boat shows natural wear consistent with active use—topsides have scratches and chafe, deck paint and caulking are unfinished, and exterior teak requires attention. The aft head needs service, and systems including the generator, battery bank, and electronics would benefit from testing and recommissioning.
