1987 Tartan 40

This 1987 Tartan 40, hull number 31 of 72, is a fiberglass sailing yacht designed by Sparkman Stephens. Built to a proven cruising design, the boat features a centerboard keel and is powered by a 40-horsepower Universal M40 diesel engine with a recently replaced shaft seal. The hull was soda blasted five years ago. Maximum speed is 8 knots.

The yacht accommodates six people and includes one head. The main cabin features a full galley with a three-burner stovetop, oven, refrigerator, and freezer. Navigation and electronic systems include a Garmin 740 GPS chartplotter, RayMarine ST6000 autopilot installed below deck, RayMarine ST60 wind and Tri-data instruments, Icom VHF radio, and a Jensen stereo. An Xantrex battery manager powers onboard systems, and an inverter is fitted.

The rig is outfitted with Harkins Mark II roller furling on the headsail. The sail inventory comprises a main, 150-jib, 120-jib, and 110-jib. All halyards are new, with two reefing lines in the main. A 52-inch Lumar winch and through-deck hoist are installed for sail handling. The propeller is a three-blade Martek folding type.

Additional equipment includes a Bimini top, dodger, winter cover in three pieces, LED lighting throughout, and an on-deck BBQ. An outboard motor mount is fitted. The boat was originally from Michigan.
