1993 J Boats J/40

This 1993 J/40 is a fiberglass sailing yacht designed by Rod Johnstone and built to combine performance with offshore cruising capability. The design centers on a five-foot wing keel, responsive helm, and organized sail handling systems that work equally well for coastal cruising, racing, or longer passages. A 47 horsepower Yanmar diesel provides auxiliary power.

The interior layout includes two private cabins with double berths, two heads, and a large salon with dining table and convertible double berth. The galley follows the J/42-style design with a center sink island and additional counter space. A forward-facing navigation station sits to starboard, while the engine is accessible beneath the companionway steps. Storage is distributed throughout the boat.

Recent upgrades span 2023 to 2026 and include new North Dacron mainsail and 135% genoa, new Harken mainsail track, new mainsheet and genoa sheets, new turnbuckles, rebuilt backstay, new lifelines, and a new 40kg Rocna anchor. A B&G 12-inch chartplotter provides navigation capability. In 2026, a new Yanmar-spec two-inch seawater intake thru-hull was installed. Interior cushions feature memory foam and Ultrasuede. All sail controls lead aft to the cockpit for short-handed operation.
