The 1988 Amel Sharki is a 39-foot ketch-rigged sailing yacht built around the design principles of Henri Amel: robust construction, comfort, and ease of handling. This fiberglass hull represents a capable blue-water platform designed for ocean crossings and extended cruising. The boat features a single 50 hp Beta Marine diesel engine with digital NMEA 2000 monitoring, supported by a 230-amp house alternator and 70-amp engine alternator.
Below deck, the Sharki accommodates two cabins and one head. Recent upgrades to the power and electrical systems include a 900-ampere-hour lithium battery bank, 400 watts of solar panels, a Victron inverter charger, and a new 12-volt panel. Navigation electronics have been thoroughly updated with a B&G system featuring 12-inch and 9-inch displays, AIS send-and-receive capability via a Vesper 8000 unit, Iridium Go, and Starlink. A new Super Wind 350 generator provides auxiliary power.
The sailing rig has been substantially refreshed with new mainsail and jib, rebuilt electric furlers for both, and a new Tigress windlass with remote control. Ground tackle consists of a new Mantus 55 anchor with 350 feet of 10-millimeter chain at the bow and 50 feet at the stern. A new tube-type bow thruster was recently installed. Below, the galley includes an ENO Europa two-burner stove with relocated propane stored in dual six-pound tanks, and a Frigo Boat refrigerator. A rebuilt holding tank serves the head.
The hull was repainted within the last few years and the deck remains in solid condition. Original Amel brass fittings have been refinished and rewired. Interior lighting has been converted to LED throughout, with Aplengloss saloon lights offering red and white options. The boat retains its original characteristics while benefiting from systematic upgrades undertaken over the past decade, including new standing rigging, new cushions for the cockpit with additional awning sets, and scheduled improvements to the saloon port windows and coach roof.
