The Cascade 42 is a 1988 cruising cutter built with a fiberglass hull and strengthened by the "Highside" design, which adds 12 inches of freeboard for greater interior volume and living space. She is rigged as a cutter with a long fin keel and full skeg rudder, supporting responsive sailing performance and control in tight waters. A Perkins 4-108 diesel engine with Borg Warner transmission provides propulsion, having logged 840 hours. Maximum speed reaches 7.2 knots, with a cruising speed of 5.8 knots.
The interior features an open layout accented by custom teak cabinetry. Accommodations include a galley equipped with a Force Ten propane stove with oven and broiler, top-loading refrigerator and freezer, and hydronic cabin heating for year-round comfort. Fresh water flush sanitation is installed. The boat carries substantial capacity tanks—160 gallons each for water and fuel—supporting extended passages.
Recent upgrades span the period from 2019 through 2024 and include new furling headsails, mainsail, and running rigging. Electrical systems have been updated with modern panels, heavy-gauge DC wiring, and AGM batteries. A hard dodger and Iverson full cockpit enclosure provide weather protection. Navigation equipment includes a Raymarine speed and depth display installed in 2022, along with Furuno plotter and radar that are partially installed. An installed dehumidifier supports cabin climate control.
