The Ellis 28 is a classic downeast design built in fiberglass with an extended pilothouse and refined wood-trimmed interior. Powered by a Yanmar 140 hp diesel engine, the boat cruises efficiently at 10 knots with a top speed above 12 knots, making her well-suited to coastal exploration and extended passages.
The pilothouse features an enclosed helm deck with starboard helm seat and port-side cabin-length cushioned settee, plus a removable co-pilot seat. The settee converts to a full-size berth. All pilothouse windows open for ventilation. Below, the single cabin offers a forward V-berth with under-berth storage, an enclosed electric head to starboard, and a galley to port. Teak and holly cabin sole and interior hull ceilings throughout. An aft enclosure with teak sliding door opens to a cockpit with fully cushioned bench seat, removable awning, and a removable inlaid teak table with folding chairs.
The boat has undergone extensive systems updates. New equipment includes an inverter to support air conditioning from house batteries, a 16-inch Garmin chartplotter with radar, VHF radio, autopilot and AIS, bow thruster, batteries, freshwater and holding tanks, faucets and pumps, macerator, PSS shaft seal, and hydraulic steering actuator. The interior brightwork and furnishings reflect the care taken during these upgrades, with work completed by both the current owner and Ellis Boat Works.
