The Hans Christian Independence is a 45-foot fiberglass trawler built in 1988, representing one of the original boats from this respected builder. Designed with stability and comfort as priorities, the hull employs semi-displacement lines and hard chines for a steady ride. Power comes from a John Deere diesel engine producing 266 horsepower, with a cruising speed of 7 knots and a maximum speed of 9 knots.

The interior accommodates five people across three cabins: a master stateroom forward with a centerline queen berth, a double guest cabin to port, and a single cabin to starboard. The galley features a propane cooktop and oven, and a microwave oven is installed. Fresh water capacity is 300 gallons. The boat includes two heads, a washer and dryer, and a generator for shore-independent operation.

A comprehensive refit program from 2015 through 2024 has modernized systems and equipment throughout. The engine received a dealer-rebuilt John Deere 6068 six-cylinder replacement in 2018, paired with a new ZF transmission and a diesel transfer and polishing system. Navigation upgrades include a 2023 Garmin Fantom Radar with 9-inch display and a Garmin 12X3 plotter/depthfinder, with a Northstar display providing engine room and exterior cameras. Dual bow and stern thrusters with joystick controls were installed in 2023, and a rebuilt Maxwell 2200 windlass with 250 feet of chain handles anchoring.

Heating systems include hydronic heaters in the main salon and wheelhouse, with Webasto diesel heating in the forward stateroom and head. Solar power comes from two 300-watt panels. The fuel system includes a Racor FG 1,000 main engine fuel filter, and twin large-capacity bilge pumps provide redundancy. Recent maintenance extends to propeller reconditioning, windlass rebuilding, and raw water system component replacement.
