1989 Catalina 42

The Catalina 42 MKI is a three-cabin cruising sailboat with a fiberglass hull and a 40-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. Built in 1989, it features a shoal-draft wing keel design and has been used exclusively in fresh water. The boat carries three separate water tanks, 39 gallons of fuel capacity, and is equipped for serious offshore cruising with a full suite of modern electronics and systems.

The interior arranges three cabins and two electric heads, with teak and holly sole flooring throughout. The galley is well-appointed with storage, a four-burner gas stove with oven, and space for multiple cooks to work comfortably. The main saloon features teak woodwork, a large dining table, and generous headroom suited to taller sailors. Accommodation includes three latex foam mattresses with custom covers and a separate master stall shower plus a wet head shower.

Systems have been progressively updated over recent years. The house battery bank—four East Penn 6V deep-cycle units—was replaced in June 2025. A Magnum Energy inverter-charger was installed in July 2024, and a new Nova Kool refrigeration system with cold plate followed in May 2024. The electrical panels and boat wiring date to 2009, and the diesel heating is provided by a Webasto furnace from 2009. A new Hitachi alternator was fitted in 2025. The sails were restitched in 2023, and the jib furler and forestay foil system were replaced in 2019.

Navigation and deck equipment includes a Raymarine chart plotter, autopilot, wind instruments, depth sounder with sonar, radar with overlay, and speed instrument. An ICOM VHF radio is fitted. The boat carries a 20-kilogram Bruce anchor with 250 feet of chain and an electric windlass with auto-anchor feature. Rigging includes a Harken jib furler, Lewmar winches, and both main and genoa sails from Doyle Sailmakers. Two 120-watt solar panels with charge controller provide auxiliary power. Davits are fitted for dinghy towing.
