1989 Custom 51 Pilothouse

This 51-foot steel pilothouse was built as an expedition-style cruiser designed for extended range voyages. Powered by twin Caterpillar diesel engines rated at 420 horsepower, the boat carries the capability and fuel efficiency expected of a serious long-distance motor yacht. The hull measures 15.5 feet across the beam, providing good stability and interior volume for a vessel of this size.

The pilothouse layout prioritizes comfort and visibility, with a large opening skylight in the salon flooding the main living area with natural light. Accommodations include air conditioning throughout. A bow thruster aids maneuverability in tight quarters, while two generators provide independent power systems. A davit system is installed for tender operations.

Equipment aboard includes a folding mast and a Caribe RIB tender with a 15-horsepower Mercury outboard engine. The boat has been maintained under cover in fresh water, which has helped preserve the steel hull and overall structure. This is a well-equipped cruising platform suited to both inland waterways and extended coastal exploration.
