This 1989 Grand Banks 46 Classic is a fiberglass trawler built around twin Cummins 6BT diesel engines producing 420 horsepower total. At 46 feet long with a 14.58-foot beam, the boat combines Grand Banks' traditional hull design with a comprehensive suite of mechanical and systems upgrades accumulated over recent years. The result is a capable cruising yacht configured for extended voyages or live-aboard use.
The interior features three cabins and two heads, each with separate shower facilities. A washer and dryer are installed for practical long-term comfort. The galley is fully equipped with oven, grill, microwave, electric skillet, and toaster. Two digital refrigeration systems and a fast ice maker are integrated into original cabinetry. Teak joinery and abundant storage throughout preserve the classic character of the design. Recent updates include new mattresses in the aft cabin (2023), new bedding and pillows, and fresh propane tanks.
Mechanical upgrades include new propellers (originals retained), cutlass bearings and dripless shaft seals installed in 2021, a larger bow thruster, and digital RPM and fuel flow monitoring. An engine room camera is fitted. Climate control comprises three upgraded Dometic air conditioning units with digital controls—one per cabin—and a Webasto hydronic heating system with individual cabin controls. All plumbing systems have been updated, including VacuFlush toilets and 10- and 5-micron water filtration. Electrical infrastructure features 50-amp shore power connections at both bow and stern with comprehensive hookup connectors, and all lighting throughout has been converted to LED.
Electronics and deck equipment include a chartplotter with 2025 charts, autopilot, and radar; three VHF radios; forward and aft cameras with extended data storage; and an air horn. The windlass is paired with a 45-pound CQR anchor on all-chain rode, plus a secondary Danforth-style anchor with mixed rode. A Caribe hard-bottom dinghy with Yamaha 9.9 outboard and electric davit winch complete the package. Life vests and flotation cushions are included. The wide walkarounds, flybridge, and aft deck provide ample space for underway movement and anchored entertaining.
