This 1989 Hylas 44 is a fiberglass cruising sailboat built for extended offshore passage. The hull measures 44.5 feet in length with a 14-foot beam, powered by a single 53-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine. The boat carries two 25-gallon stainless steel fuel tanks and accommodates two poly water tanks alongside two original stainless tanks, with fresh water produced by a Clark watermaker capable of generating 7 gallons per hour while drawing only 100 watts.
The electrical system has been substantially rebuilt with an 800 amp-hour Victron lithium battery bank, 3000-watt Multiplus II inverter-charger, and 1270 watts of solar panels managed by dual Victron charge controllers. An upgraded 170-amp alternator with Arco Zeus regulator and new anchor wiring complete the power infrastructure. The navigation suite includes a Raymarine Axiom 2 Pro 9 chartplotter, Quantum radar, depth sounder, wired masthead wind transducer, and Evolution autopilot, all networked on new SeaTalkNG wiring.
Significant structural and systems work has been completed in recent years. The running rigging was replaced in 2023, precision sails were new in 2024, and the standing rigging dates to 2013 with original glassed-in chainplates. A new Lewmar windlass was installed in 2023 and rewired to the lithium system in 2024. Six of eleven through-hulls were replaced, with the five original brass seacocks remaining and electrically bonded for easy access. Both heads have been rebuilt with new plumbing; the forward head includes a PuraSan system with no holding tank, and the aft head can be configured for fresh or raw water. A fiberglass hardtop was custom installed in 2024, and Kiwigrip deck paint was applied the same year. The dinghy motor is new in 2024.
