Built in 1990 by A&P Appledore in Aberdeen, this 345-foot steel passenger cargo ship was originally designed for service between South Africa and St. Helena Island, demanding robust construction to withstand extreme Southern Ocean conditions. The hull features 12mm steel plating on 14mm keel, with Lloyd's Register classification and notation for unrestricted ocean-going operation. Two Mirrelees Blackstone main engines deliver 8,752 total horsepower, achieving a maximum speed of 16.5 knots and a range of 15,000 nautical miles at cruise speed.
The ship accommodates 175 guests across 62 cabins plus 50 crew berths distributed over eight decks. Owner's suites, captain's and chief engineer's quarters, and various cabin configurations support diverse operational needs. Public spaces include two lounges, an 80-seat restaurant, meeting rooms, a hospital with consulting room, reception areas, and a bar. Two cargo holds with hydraulic platforms handle 3,750 cubic meters of cargo or up to 92 TEU containers, with a deadweight capacity of 1,800 metric tons. Twin 12-ton cranes can combine to 24 tons.
A comprehensive 2019 refit renewed the entire vessel inside and out. All machinery was serviced or upgraded; shafts and propellers were pulled and reconditioned. The exterior was blasted, primed, and repainted. Interior spaces were fully renovated with modern finishes and efficient, eco-friendly systems. New bilge water treatment, power management, and ballast water treatment systems were installed. The ship is suited for passenger cruise operations, accommodation charter, expedition support, or multi-role deployment.
