1990 Koopmans 50 Centerboard

This 1990 Koopmans 50 Centerboard is an aluminum sailing yacht built to Dutch standards by designer Dick Koopmans Sr. At just over 51 feet with a 14-foot beam, the boat features a distinctive positive transom that extends living space on deck. She is powered by a Perkins diesel engine and equipped with a centerboard that raises via electric hydraulic lift.

The interior accommodates two cabins and seven heads. Recent major work has transformed the boat for extended cruising and liveaboard use. The hull was completely restored in 2021–2022, with new welded aluminum patches maintaining the original 8 mm thickness throughout, fresh painting, and upgraded through-hull fittings. The teak deck was replaced with low-maintenance Flexiteak. New windows and screens were installed, along with renewed travelers, sheets, and halyards. A new bimini and splash screens complete the exterior upgrades.

Systems throughout are modern. A Perkins engine received a full water cooler overhaul with dual filters installed. Power comes from three 250 Ah gel batteries managed by a new Victron charger, while a new Webasto boiler provides heating. Navigation includes a Raymarine plotter with radar and AIS. A new Lofrans 1700 anchor winch with remote and counter was added in 2024, along with fresh antifouling. The boat carries a Rocna 40 anchor, a life raft, EPIRB, and Starlink connectivity.

The genoa is new with a Furlex furling system. A Tikikat dinghy with Mercury 6 hp outboard and a complete spare propeller round out the equipment. The boat has proven seaworthiness and was actively cruised for nearly a decade before recent liveaboard use. She is registered under Dutch flag as of 2023.
