1991 Crossbow Crossbow 40

This 1991 Crossbow 40 is a centre cockpit cutter designed by Angelo Lavranos and built in South Africa by Ocean Bound Yachts. The design has proven itself across thousands of miles of blue water cruising, with a reputation comparable to Bowman, Hallberg Rassy, Swan, and Rustler yachts. The hull is fibreglass with a 3/4 lead encapsulated fin keel, teak decks, and copper coating applied to the hull in 2017. The interior showcases exceptional craftsmanship, featuring extensive teak work throughout, with accommodation for five in three cabins (two doubles and one single) plus two berths in the saloon. Two heads with showers and two holding tanks serve the accommodation.

The sailing rig is cutter configuration with standing rigging original to the boat (replacement cost factored into asking price), a removable forestay added in 2020, and running backstays. Sails are Hydronet (2010/11) with eight Lewmar winches providing deck control. Power comes from a 48 hp Yanmar diesel with shaft drive to a three-bladed fixed propeller, complemented by a bow thruster installed in 2018 and a Yanmar 5kva generator. A Hydrovane self-steering unit fitted in 2016 aids long-distance passage-making.

Systems are comprehensive for extended cruising. Solar generation (150w Vectron panel), inverter, and charger support five batteries. An electric windlass hauls the Spade anchor and 90 metres of chain. Navigation equipment includes Simrad and B&G instruments with plotter, radar, GPS, autopilot, and AIS, plus a satphone and wireless network. Heating is provided by Mikuni diesel and Vetus immersion heater, with a well-equipped galley. The boat carries a six-person tender with electric outboard, six-person life raft, EPIRB, and life buoys.
