1991 Tartan Thomas 35

The Tartan Thomas 35 is a 1991 sailing yacht built to bridge the gap between racing performance and cruising comfort. At 35 feet with an 11.5-foot beam, she combines a high-performance design with practical accommodations. A single 27-horsepower Yanmar diesel provides auxiliary power, and she cruises at 7 knots under sail.

The interior centers on teak and holly sole with oiled or varnished teak joinery throughout. Forward is a master cabin with a V-berth, bureau with under-storage, and hanging locker, served by a head with shower and vanity. The main cabin holds two fixed 6-foot 6-inch settees with pilot berths outboard, a folding dining table, and a galley to port fitted with a stainless steel sink, ice box, alcohol stove with oven, and sea water hand pump. A forward-facing nav station to starboard houses electronics and power distribution. Two quarter berths aft complete the sleeping arrangements.

On deck, a 10-foot T-shaped self-bailing cockpit with contoured seats and backrests serves both racing and cruising. Six large winches support sail trim, with all halyards and sail controls leading aft to the cockpit. The main sheet uses cascading blocks for both gross and fine trim, and a hydraulic adjustable backstay is fitted. Quality deck hardware is standard throughout.

This example has been extensively upgraded and maintained for racing on Long Island Sound, with ongoing refinement work done in consultation with a former North Sails designer.
