The Tartan 31 Piper is a fiberglass sailing yacht built to perform in both racing and cruising conditions, with a design that emphasizes offshore capability. The hull features full sections with a firm bilge turn, delivering excellent stability and low wetted surface. The boat carries ballast low with a high ballast-displacement ratio, allowing it to support a powerful sail plan. Two keel options are available: a deep elliptical fin or a shoal-draft beaver tail bulb. The rig is a tall double-spreader masthead design with a large mainsail and high-aspect foretriangle, optimized for reaching, off-wind, and windward performance. All sail controls lead aft to housetop-mounted winches. The deck layout includes a large foredeck, wide side decks, and a comfortable cockpit with contoured seating.
Below deck, the interior combines contemporary styling with offshore practicality. Hand-rubbed teak cabinetry and bulkheads create an open, luxurious feel. The galley wraps around the companionway to starboard and features a U-shaped layout with a large insulated ice box, two-burner gimballed propane stove with oven, storage, and a deep stainless steel sink. Accommodations consist of two cabins and one head.
Ventilation is managed through nine opening port lights, three overhead hatches, and two dorade vents. The boat is powered by an 18 hp Yammer diesel engine and measures 31 feet 4 inches in length with a beam of nearly 11 feet.
