The C&C 37/40 XL is a 39-foot fiberglass racer-cruiser built in 1993 with a Kevlar-reinforced hull and equipped with the sought-after XL performance rig. Powered by a Yanmar 3JH2E diesel engine of 38 horsepower, the boat combines genuine sailing performance with practical cruising accommodations. The design is configured for short-handed operation, with all control lines led aft and an extensive array of modern electronics and mechanical systems installed throughout.
The interior provides comfortable cruising quarters with a separate shower stall, composting toilet, and a large refrigerated top-loading fridge with keel cooler. Three 35-gallon freshwater tanks support extended passages. A brand-new cockpit enclosure with heavy-duty clear panels offers weather protection and visibility. The electrical system includes three Group 31 batteries, an 800-watt solar array with dual controllers, a 3000-watt inverter, and a Balmar high-output alternator with smart controller. LED lighting is installed throughout.
Navigation and control are handled by a full Garmin suite that includes chartplotter, autopilot with wireless remote, xHD radar, forward-scan sonar, and VHF radio with AIS transmit and receive capability. Steering upgrades include a rebuilt rudder, replaced cable as of Fall 2024, and a newly installed autopilot. A new throttle cable was also installed in Fall 2024. Standing rigging has been replaced to original rod specifications with a new furler, and the mast was stripped and repainted. Stainless steel chainplates, LED lights, and most running rigging have been replaced.
The sail inventory includes a mainsail with three reef points and 110 genoa from Zoom Sails, an asymmetrical spinnaker with sock, and a Mack Stack Pack system with extensive deck hardware for racing configurations. Ground tackle consists of a Mantus 55-pound anchor, 120 feet of heavy-duty 3/8-inch chain, and a heavy-duty windlass with helm and local controls. The engine has approximately 2,328 hours with major service completed at 1,500 hours. Recent mechanical improvements include a new three-blade folding prop, bronze engine seacock replacement, and an emergency dewatering pickup. The hull carries a fresh Awlgrip finish with barrier-coated bottom and paint renewed three years ago.
