The Oyster 55 is a blue-water cruising yacht designed by Holman and Pye and launched in 1986. This example, a Sovereign variant, carries the traditional proportions that define the class: moderate freeboard, elegant sheer, and generous overhangs combine with a balanced hull form to deliver a capable seaboat, particularly effective upwind in heavy conditions. The hull is single-skin GRP, heavily built with substantial ribs and stringers, an encapsulated keel, and keel-stepped mast. She measures 55 feet in length with a 15.75-foot beam and is powered by a 110 hp Yanmar diesel.
The interior features four cabins and two heads with teak joinery throughout. She is rigged as a cutter with in-mast furling on the mainsail and dedicated furling systems for both headsail and staysail.
In 2019, a comprehensive upgrade was undertaken that included new decks, new anchor windlass, new canvaswork, standing and running rigging replaced, new furling headsail and staysail systems, new sails, new bowthruster, new battery charger, new lighting, and new sailing instruments. The yacht has been maintained to this standard since the refit.
