1995 Moody 38

The Moody 38 is a proven center cockpit cruiser designed by Bill Dixon and built to Lloyds standards. At 38 feet overall with a 12.5-foot beam, she combines a solid fiberglass hull with manageable handling and modest running costs, making her well-suited for extended cruising. The center cockpit layout, spacious aft cabin, and sugar scoop transom with swimming ladder are hallmarks of her design for long-distance voyaging.

Below deck, accommodations include two cabins sleeping seven across multiple berths: a large aft cabin with walkaround double, a forward v-berth with convertible singles, and a starboard passage berth. The main saloon features a large dining area with folding table and liquor locker. Two heads with showers and a spacious galley with double-bowl sink, gimballed two-burner stove with oven and grill, and 12V refrigeration support extended cruising. Navigation station to starboard, ample hanging lockers, and storage throughout.

Power comes from a Volvo MD22L diesel of 50 horsepower, accessible from four sides. Fuel capacity is 50 gallons; water tanks total 96 gallons. Ground tackle includes a 35-pound plough anchor with 100 feet of 5/8-inch chain marked at 25-foot intervals. The rig carries an in-mast furling mainsail and roller furling Genoa, both serviced by Doyle in 2012. Running rigging was replaced in 2014.

Recent maintenance includes new bottom paint and antifoul (March 2025), new hot water heater (2025), professionally rebuilt and rebedded salon portholes, and new teak cockpit seating and sole glued throughout. All thru-hulls except the galley sink were replaced with Forespar Marelon in 2012. Keel bolts were replaced in 2013. Electronics include a 2014 Raymarine seven-inch chartplotter and hydraulic autopilot. The boat has not been in regular use in recent years and is currently ashore.
