The 1989 Island Packet 38 is a fiberglass cruising yacht built for blue-water sailing. At 38 feet overall with a 12-foot-8-inch beam, it features a full keel that protects the propeller and rudder, wide non-skid decks, and a spacious cockpit. Power comes from a 44-horsepower Yammer diesel engine. The yacht carries a main sail and 130% genoa purchased new from Mack Sails in 2019, along with a spinnaker halyard and new sheets.
The layout includes two cabins and two heads. The saloon has LED lighting throughout. Recent upgrades include a new head installed in 2020, a shower pump and switch in 2021, and bilge and galvanic protection systems. The electrical system runs on five AGM batteries plus one additional battery, all installed in 2020, with three 200-watt hard solar panels available ready to install. Navigation and communication equipment includes a VHF radio and Bluetooth stereo, both from 2020.
The boat received substantial bottom work in 2020 with soda blasting, two barrier coats, and four coats of ablative paint. An anchor windlass was installed new in 2021 but remains unused, paired with a 2021 Mantus 55-pound anchor and rode comprising 250 feet of 5/16-inch chain and 100 feet of 3/4-inch rope, also unused. Other systems updated include an engine starter in 2021, a main halyard in 2019, and a Tides Marine mast track with low-friction design. The yacht is equipped with a bimini top, folding dinghy davits, and includes a 2001 Avon dinghy. A Milwaukee 24-volt portable sail winch is aboard, along with current USCG safety equipment.
