1996 Custom Grand Mistral Maxi One Design – N° 2

This 1996 Custom Grand Mistral Maxi One Design is a 78-foot racing-derived sailing yacht designed by Bruce Farr and built by Mistral Composite in France. Between 2010 and 2023, the boat underwent a comprehensive conversion to high-performance cruising configuration. Her Kevlar and epoxy hull, reinforced with carbon, pairs with a carbon rig and modern sail inventory to deliver strong performance: top speed of approximately 24 knots, with typical ocean passages achieving 250–300 nautical miles daily in moderate conditions. The yacht maintains good upwind speed even at apparent wind angles as low as 25 degrees.

The interior layout includes a master double cabin with ensuite head, two additional single cabins, a fully outfitted galley, spacious saloon, technical workshop, and dedicated laundry room. The yacht is equipped for independent cruising with a 250-liter-per-hour watermaker, two generators, central heating, and comprehensive Simrad electronics including radar, AIS, satellite communication, and autopilot redundancy. Safety systems comprise offshore-rated liferafts, AIS beacons, and EPIRB.

On deck, the boat features a carbon swim platform, sliding dodger, solid teak deck installed in 2016, electric winches, and a bow thruster configured for shorthanded operation. A 130 hp Volvo Penta engine provides auxiliary power. The yacht carries a 12-foot AB tender with Yamaha outboard from 2023, along with diving equipment, wing foil and windsurfing gear, and fishing equipment.
