1996 Little Harbor 51 Pilothouse

The ¾ Time is a 1996 Little Harbor 51 Pilothouse, a Ted Hood design built for serious ocean cruising. This fiberglass hull combines exceptional shallow-water capability—drawing just 6 feet with the centerboard raised and 13 feet 6 inches fully extended—with a proven track record: the boat completed a circumnavigation between November 2016 and April 2018, much of it sailed shorthanded. The pilothouse design provides both weather protection and comfortable day-sailing accommodation, while the layout prioritizes accessibility and control for independent operation.

The boat has benefited from sustained investment and upgrades since returning to the Chesapeake. Recent work includes new cockpit and pilothouse cushions, a refreshed midstay, refurbished backstay hydraulic cylinders, and upgraded light fixtures throughout the galley and heads, all completed in 2024 and 2025. Navigation electronics have been modernized with a 12-inch Raymarine Axiom Pro in the pilothouse and a 9-inch unit in the cockpit, both installed in 2024. Battery capacity was expanded to 1200 amp hours of lithium in 2024.

The vessel's systems reflect ongoing maintenance and strategic replacement. The Yanmar 4LHA diesel engine produces 160 horsepower and runs approximately 2,850 hours following a rebuild in 2015. Sailing systems including the Hood stowaway furling rig, hydraulic vang, and Navtec control panel have been serviced or upgraded in recent years. The hull was repainted in Awlgrip Island Turquoise in 2020, while the interior was fully refinished in Bali in 2017.
