1997 Beneteau 50

Gonzo is a 1997 Beneteau 50, a 50-foot sloop designed by Bruce Farr with an interior by Armel Briand. Built for performance and extended cruising, she features a fiberglass hull, teak interior, and a single Perkins 85-horsepower diesel engine with under 3,000 hours of use. The boat cruises at 8 knots and reaches 9 knots at maximum speed, with excellent offshore sailing characteristics that have proven themselves in both charter and private ownership.

The interior is organized across five cabins and five heads. Four double cabins feature ensuite heads, with a removable divider between the two forward cabins allowing flexible layout options. A small crew cabin forward, accessed by bow hatch, has two bunks and a head. The main salon contains a dinette to port, galley to starboard, and a large navigation station. The galley is equipped with a Force 10 three-burner propane stove and oven, dual propane tanks, island counter, stainless steel double sink, and substantial cabinet and drawer storage. A 12-volt refrigerator and freezer with holding plate, plus a Magma grill mounted on the cockpit rail, complete the cooking amenities. Fresh water capacity totals 264 gallons across four tanks, supported by dual 12-volt Jabsco pumps and a 12-gallon hot water tank. Espar hydronic diesel heat serves the interior through multiple registers.

Electrical power comes from dual battery banks—five Group 31 AGM units in Bank 1 and two 4D AGM units in Bank 2—plus a dedicated engine start battery. A Magnum Energy 2000-watt inverter provides 120-volt power. Navigation and communication equipment includes a Garmin TR-1 autopilot, Raytheon radar, Raytheon wind and depth instruments, Si-tex GPS chartplotter, ICOM VHF radio, and a Kenwood stereo with Bluetooth. The deck features wide sidedecks, teak bulwark, dual cockpit configuration, dodger and bimini top, Lewmar self-tailing winches and traveler, and full battened mainsail with reef points plus Doyle genoa on furler. Ground tackle includes a CQR hinged plow anchor with 120 feet of chain and 200 feet of line, plus a Bruce 33-kilogram secondary anchor.
