Cloud Chaser is a 67-foot steel ketch built in 1997 by Hike Metal Products. Designed for offshore and long-range cruising, she combines a full keel hull with a classic pilothouse profile and impressive volume throughout. The steel construction—freshly painted in 2024—provides substantial durability for extended voyages, with ultrasound readings confirming good steel thickness above and below the waterline.
The rig is a true ketch configuration offering excellent sail balance and flexibility, with aluminum main and mizzen masts, roller furling headsail, staysail, and yankee, supported by quality hardware from Barlow, Lewmar, and other established makers. Propulsion comes from a turbocharged Detroit Diesel 4-71 engine producing approximately 170–180 hp, paired with a 3-inch stainless shaft and bronze propeller. The deck features a self-draining centre cockpit, welded toe rails and stanchions, a steel anchor platform with double rollers, and an Ideal electric windlass. Ground tackle includes a 240-pound custom Rocna-style anchor, CQR and Danforth anchors, and 300 feet of half-inch chain. An electric dinghy lift and boarding ladder are installed at the transom.
Accommodations are generous, with sleeping capacity for up to 17 people across a master cabin, four bunk cabins, and multiple salon berths. Two electric heads and two showers serve the interior. The galley features a Force 10 propane stove and oven, refrigeration, deep freezer, microwave, and central vacuum. Heating is provided by a wood stove plus electric heaters. The main salon offers wraparound seating, convertible sleeping areas, and extensive storage.
Systems reflect long-range independence: 1,700 liters of diesel fuel, 397 liters of fresh water, a watermaker producing 90 liters per hour, and 909 liters of holding capacity. Electrical systems include six Trojan house batteries plus a 4D start battery, two alternators, four 100-watt solar panels, two wind generators, and a Magna Sine inverter-charger. Navigation equipment includes Furuno NavNet, ICOM VHF, ComNav autopilot, and fluxgate compass.
