1997 J Boats J/42

The 1997 J/42 is a well-regarded performance cruiser built on a fiberglass hull with a 12-foot beam. She is powered by a single 47-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine and fitted with a carbon fiber rig. The boat features a royal blue hull with teak toerails and a varnished cherry interior throughout.

The accommodations include two staterooms and two heads, with a main salon that opens to the cabin spaces. The cockpit includes a custom teak table with adjustable settings to seat up to six people. Below deck, the teak and holly cabin sole has been refurbished. Cabin and salon cushions have been recovered in marine-grade fabrics.

Recent mechanical and structural work has been substantial. The standing rigging was replaced in 2026 with new rod rigging. The Harken Roller Headsail Furling system was upgraded to MKIV specification in 2026. Engine systems received comprehensive attention: the cooling system was fully overhauled in 2026, along with turbo service. The dripless shaft seal and cutlass bearing were both replaced in 2026. Spars and rigging updates include new masthead sheaves, mast lights converted to LED, halyard replacements, and adjustable lazy jacks. Additional systems refreshed include the Ritchie ship's compass, lifelines and gates, hatch lenses, and ventilation components. Solar power is provided by a 100-watt Renogy flex panel installed on the dodger. The boat rides on a North Sails quick cover with stack pack system.
