The Pacific Seacraft Pilothouse 40 is a 40-foot fiberglass sailing yacht built in 1997, powered by a single Yanmar diesel engine of 62 horsepower. The defining feature is its substantial pilothouse, a strongly constructed superstructure that provides sheltered watch-standing and steering capability in all weather conditions while adding to the boat's righting moment and self-righting ability in the event of a knockdown. The pilothouse design allows for comfortable passage-making, with room to observe conditions underway or at anchor, and includes autopilot capability for night watches.
The accommodation layout comprises two staterooms: a forward cabin sleeping two and a midships cabin with two separate bunks. An aft settee provides additional sleeping berth for two. The galley is equipped with a three-burner Force 10 propane stove and oven, dual stainless steel sinks, hot and cold pressure water, and both refrigeration and freezer boxes. Electrical systems include 110-volt, 50-amp shorepower service, a Victron inverter and charger, and proper AC and DC electrical distribution.
Navigation and communication equipment comprises a Garmin GPSmap 8610xsv chartplotter, Raytheon R40XX radar, and Icom SSB radio. An AM/FM stereo with Sony disc changer and four Boston Acoustics speakers provide audio entertainment.
The yacht is rigged as a cutter with keel-stepped double-spreader mast featuring full-battened mainsail, roller-furling genoa and staysail with Harken roller furlers, spinnaker with dousing sock, and internal halyards. The standing rigging was replaced in 2012. A Max-Prop three-blade feathering propeller, Muir vertical windlass, and three anchors support seagoing capability. Deck equipment includes stainless steel mast and stern pulpits, dinghy davits, dodger, full bimini, and teak dorade boxes with chrome vents.
