The Hylas 46 is a proven bluewater cruiser, designed by German Frers and built by Queen Long Marine to exacting standards. This 1998 example is a fiberglass sailboat 46 feet in length with a 13.67-foot beam, powered by an 80 HP Yanmar diesel engine. She cruises at 6.5 knots and reaches 8.5 knots at speed. The boat's solid construction and offshore capability make her suited to extended passages and remote anchorages alike.
Below deck, the layout centers on two cabins and two heads with showers. The aft owner's cabin features a centerline queen berth with lee cloths, storage, and ventilation. Forward is a guest cabin with a Pullman berth, also equipped with lee cloths. The salon offers an open design with quality joinery. The galley to port includes seven feet of counter space, refrigeration and freezer, and a gimbaled stove. A navigation station to starboard provides a dedicated command center with full electronics and electrical controls.
The boat has benefited from significant recent work. The Yanmar engine has 1,000 hours. New Doyle mainsail with StackPack and genoa were installed, along with a complete overhaul of standing and running rigging. Electric primary and main halyard winches are aboard. A new Balmar 170 amp alternator supports the electrical system. Two solar panels of 120 watts each and a 2,500-watt Freedom inverter/charger support off-grid cruising capability. The hull received new Awlgrip paint, and a fresh bottom paint was applied. Canvas dodger and bimini protect the cockpit.
