The 1998 J/92 is a 30-foot performance cruiser-racer built on a fiberglass hull. Known for speed and responsive handling, this design balances competitive sailing performance with accessibility and ease of operation. A single 10 hp Yanmar diesel provides auxiliary power.
The deck carries performance-oriented equipment: a retractable carbon bowsprit, aluminum spinnaker pole, four Harken self-tailing winches, and Spinlock hardware. Running rigging was fully upgraded to Dyneema between 2018 and 2019, with recent updates to the backstay system, vang, and clutches. Standing rigging includes a forestay replaced in 2016. The sail plan is extensive, with a Dacron mainsail in lazy bag, a 2018 racing genoa, multiple overlapping genoas, a Kevlar solent, and both symmetric and asymmetric spinnakers. Anchoring consists of a 10 kg anchor with chain and rode.
Navigation and electrical systems are well appointed. A Raymarine EV-100 autopilot with remote control, Tacktick instruments, SeaTalk NG network, and active GPS antenna support passage-making. VHF radio is installed. The electrical system includes shore power charger, alternator distribution, a recent panel, engine and service batteries, and LED interior and navigation lights. Safety gear includes a Plastimo 4-person liferaft.
Below deck accommodates two cabins and one head in a simple, functional layout. The interior features a refitted fresh water system, aft berths under the cockpit, removable saloon table, and marine toilet. The Yanmar engine was replaced in 2023 with a refurbished unit; the gearbox control was renewed in 2019. The hull receives professional maintenance annually with sanding and racing antifouling, most recently completed in August 2024.
