1998 Limited Edition Hike Metal

A 1998 Hike Metal pilothouse yacht built for serious ocean cruising. Her 55-foot aluminum hull features expedition-grade construction with four watertight compartments, reinforced zones, and a hydraulic lifting keel that raises to 6'6" or lowers to 10' for offshore work and shallow-water access. Designed by ABS naval architect Mike Scolfield and built by Hike Metal Industries, she combines commercial-strength engineering with comfortable, finished living spaces below.

The pilothouse helm station sits forward with full visibility, a gimballed seat, and a dedicated watch berth for rough-weather comfort. A Hall Spars rig and extensive sail inventory—including storm jib and spinnakers—support a Yanmar 100 hp auxiliary engine. A carbon spinnaker pole and Whitlock torsion bar steering complete the sail plan.

Below, a cherry and ash interior accommodates three cabins with two double berths, two single berths, and a pilothouse watch berth; two heads serve the accommodations. Systems reflect blue-water intent: Yanmar 15 hp genset, Aqua Marine watermaker, Espar hydronic heating, wind and water generators, solar panel, and ultrasonic antifouling. Navigation and communication equipment includes dual Simrad chartplotters, AIS, B&G radar and wind/speed/depth instruments, Raymarine autopilot, and SSB radio with Proctor modem. Hull insulation uses Rubitek 1/2-inch material. A Capac hull monitor tracks sacrificial zinc protection and hull continuity in real time. A six-person Elliot liferaft is aboard.
