The 1998 Northern Bay 36 is a fiberglass trawler built on a proven Spencer Lincoln-designed hull, combining traditional Downeast styling with commercial-grade construction. Powered by a single 420 horsepower Volvo Penta diesel engine, she cruises economically at displacement speeds around 7–8 knots or reaches the mid-to-upper teens when desired, with a maximum speed of 22 knots. A full-control flybridge provides excellent sightlines for navigation and docking, while a 4.2 kW generator, generous fuel and water capacity, and reverse-cycle air conditioning and heating support extended cruising.
The interior is designed for a cruising couple with a forward master stateroom and a convertible dinette that serves as additional overnight accommodations. The single head completes the functional layout suited to long-range voyaging.
Recent maintenance and upgrades include a rebuilt heat exchanger (2026), new 10,000 and 16,000 BTU Dometic air conditioning units (2025), new vacuflush toilet and upgraded 45-gallon holding tank (2025), new generator and house and thruster batteries (2024), a new 6-inch master mattress (2025), and a new flybridge dock box for storage and seating (2023).
