2001 Beneteau First 40.7

This 2001 Beneteau First 40.7 is a 39-foot fiberglass sloop designed by Bruce Farr & Associates for both racing and cruising. The hull combines racing pedigree with practical cruising capability, featuring an efficient layout and versatile sail plan. A Volvo Penta 40 hp diesel engine powers the boat.

The deck is built for working under sail with wide, nearly level sidedecks finished in effective nonskid, and handrails positioned within easy reach throughout. The foredeck remains clear of clutter for efficient sail handling. The furling genoa sheets at an efficient 10-degree angle and runs on Lewmar racing ball bearing cars, as does the mainsail. The helmsman commands from a leather-covered wheel with a teak slatted seat, while the ergonomic cockpit includes optional removable lockers.

Below deck, the layout balances comfortable cruising with efficient storage. The navigation station features a large chart table with shelves and lockers, paired with a curved navigator's seat backed by additional chart storage. The salon seats six around an inlaid table, with curved lockers and shelves providing both style and function. A galley to port includes a gimbaled stove, double stainless steel sink with hot and cold pressurized water, 12V refrigerator, and ample storage. The head to starboard is fully lined and equipped with a marine toilet, wash basin, shower unit, and hanging locker.

Three sleeping cabins provide accommodation for extended voyages. The forward cabin opens directly to the head and features a large overhead hatch for ventilation. Both aft cabins offer generous berths built in two parts to accept leeboards, with substantial ventilation and storage throughout. The boat's moderate draft and structural refinements—including a carbon-vinylester rudder blade, composite rudder stock with self-aligning bearings, and glassed inner structure—support both racing performance and cruising reliability.
