This 2001 Catana 401 is a 44-foot composite catamaran built for ocean cruising with performance in mind. The hull features carbon fibre and Kevlar reinforcement combined with vinylester resin. Carbon construction extends to the daggerboards, mast, and davits, contributing to efficient upwind sailing and light-wind capability. The boat's sterns have been professionally extended and approved by French Maritime Authority, which improves wave clearance, sea comfort, and load capacity. Twin Nanni diesel engines produce 60 hp each.
The accommodation layout includes two cabins and one head, arranged for owner use. The design prioritizes reduced-crew ocean passage capability with a responsive hull form and controlled weight distribution.
Recent work includes new rigging installed in 2022 and new sails fitted in 2024. The Nanni engines carry very low hours, and new saildrives were fitted in 2026. A 3.10-metre dinghy with 15 hp outboard was also replaced in 2024. Solar panels, battery banks, and MPPT charge controllers provide energy independence. The boat is equipped for cruising passage-making, though safety equipment and electronic instruments may warrant attention.
