The Island Packet 420 is a 44-foot cruising sailboat built in 2001 with a full-displacement hull designed for blue-water voyaging. Powered by a 75-horsepower Yanmar diesel engine with 2,456 hours, the boat combines comfortable accommodations with robust systems engineered for self-sufficiency. Recent work includes new chain plates and rigging completed in 2025, a new bottom paint applied in 2024, and a completely rebuilt sanitation system. The boat carries substantial electrical infrastructure: 942 amp-hours of lithium battery capacity, a 2000-watt inverter-charger, two 380-watt solar panels with Victron controls, a 4.2-kilowatt generator with rebuilt sound proofing, and a Spectra watermaker. Three separate air conditioning units provide 24,000 BTUs of cooling capacity. Navigation electronics include dual color displays—a B&G Vulcan 12-inch touchscreen at the helm and a Raymarine 7-inch plotter at the nav station—along with an ICOM SSB radio with Pactor modem for long-range communication.
The layout comprises two cabins and two heads. Forward is the owner's suite with an island berth spanning the full beam, complemented by a private head featuring a separate shower stall, deep stainless steel sink, and VacuFlush toilet. The main salon uses Island Packet's signature fold-up bulkhead table with UltraLeather settee cushions; the starboard settee converts to a double berth. An aft guest cabin contains a Pullman berth and cedar-lined lockers, served by a second head with shower. The galley sits to starboard of the companionway with a 3-burner Force 10 stove, double sinks, and an insulated 12-volt refrigerator with separate freezer. All overhead hatches have teak-framed insect screens, and the sole features a teak and holly finish. The boat is furnished throughout with cookware, dishes, linens, and towels.
The sailing rig includes oversized self-tailing winches, a 110-percent genoa on roller furling, a roller furling mainsail, and an asymmetrical spinnaker. New running rigging was installed in 2020. Deck equipment encompasses a custom Kato arch with davits for the tender, dual saltwater and freshwater washdowns, a hot and cold cockpit shower, and a new Bimini with Strataglass dodger added in 2018. The boat carries a 2011 Achilles inflatable dinghy with a 2018 Evinrude 15-horsepower outboard. Ground tackle includes a Rocna 33-kilogram primary anchor on new chain (2020) and a Lewmar Claw backup anchor, both with adequate rode. A Lighthouse electric windlass with rebuilt motor facilitates ground handling. Additional safety gear includes a Winslow 60-person liferaft, life jackets with strobes, flares, fire extinguishers, and jacklines
