This 2001 Sceptre 43 is a low-profile pilothouse cruiser built to high standards with a proven ocean-cruising design. The Sceptre 43 represents an updated version of the original Sceptre 41, featuring a sugar-scoop transom that extends the waterline, adds reserve buoyancy aft, and provides a walk-through platform for dinghy operations and water access. The hull is solid fiberglass with a cored deck and cabin structure, supported by a deep, bolted-on cruising fin keel with a skeg-hung rudder mounted on three bearings. The rig is a double-spreader, keel-stepped mast with cutter capability, and the chainplates are mechanically secured to aluminum pipes set in substantial fiberglass knees.
The boat sleeps six across two cabins with one head, and a deep, accommodating cockpit supports serious passagemaking. A Yammer 56-horsepower diesel engine provides auxiliary power with a cruising speed of 6.5 knots and a maximum speed of 7.5 knots.
The current owners acquired the boat in 2004 and have maintained it extensively. Major work includes a professional hull and cabin repaint with Awlgrip in 2024–25, a renewed epoxy barrier coat on the bottom, and new gelcoat on the deck and cabin. The mast and boom were pulled and professionally inspected in 2018, with all standing rigging replaced and running gear completely rebuilt. An Espar hydronic heating system was upgraded with a new furnace and lines in 2018. Five new Lewmar overhead hatches, a new companionway hatch with Lexan, new stainless lifelines with pelican hooks, a new windlass gearbox, and new upholstery and canvas have been completed in recent years. Keel bolts were inspected and torqued in 2018.
