This 2002 Chris White Hammerhead 54 is a composite trimaran built for serious offshore sailing with shallow draft and efficient cruising capability. Her narrow forebody slices through waves at speed without pounding, while the wide beam of 34.5 feet provides stability downwind. A Yammer 4-JH4-TE diesel with 2,150 hours powers her at 8 knots cruise and 11.5 knots maximum, with a folding propeller that minimizes drag under sail. Construction uses epoxy resin and E-glass throughout, with Western Red Cedar and foam cores in the hulls, and carbon fiber crossbeams.
The deckhouse and saloon are designed for ease of handling. The 7.5-by-11-foot cockpit sits amidships with all sail controls within reach—electric Lewmar winches for main and jib sheets, electric halyard winches, and a reefing system led to the helm. The navigation station features a chart table with overhead instrument panels, while a fold-down dining table converts to a double bunk opposite a full-length seat. The galley runs along the port side with a three-burner stove and oven. Forward cabin has two seven-foot single bunks with reading lights and large hatch access. Both heads feature polished stainless steel sinks, hot and cold water, and composting or marine toilets. The aft cabin offers a large double berth with dresser and reading lights.
Electronics and systems reflect continuous investment: Garmin chartplotters at both helm and nav station, Furuno 24-mile radar, Coursemaster autopilot, Vesper AIS, and Iridium satellite receiver. Power comes from six 6-volt AGM batteries totaling 660 amp-hours (installed 2017), a 100-amp alternator, 400-watt solar array (2021), and 1000-watt inverter. Fresh water and fuel systems hold 120 and 90 gallons respectively. The Lofrans electric windlass is new as of 2025, as is the 100 feet of 5/16-inch high-test chain.
Sails include a 2014 Ullman mainsail in good condition, a 2016 Ullman genoa, a 2023 Calvert staysail with Facnor furler, and a 2021 Ullman carbon screecher. An asymmetrical spinnaker with sock completes the suite. Three Bruce and Fortress anchors, ground tackle, a six-person liferaft (2021), sea drogue and parachute sea anchor, and a 10-foot Achilles dinghy with 8-horsepower Tohatsu engine are included.
