2002 Out Island 38 Express Fisherman

The Out Island 38 Express Fisherman is a fiberglass sportfish built around a hull design that combines a Carolina flare, classic tumble home, and rounded transom. Twin Yanmar diesel engines produce 1,000 horsepower total, driving the boat to 30 knots top speed and 24 knots cruising. The design emphasizes seakeeping and fuel efficiency, carrying over 500 gallons of fuel. Garmin electronics are installed throughout.

The cockpit features a center command station with electronics, controls, and switches positioned for easy access. Storage is abundant, including a concealed, locking, self-bailing rod locker with wash-down. The layout prioritizes visibility and functional design for fishing work.

Below deck, the engine room provides good access for inspection and service. The single cabin includes handcrafted doors, drawers, and cabinetry in either teak or maple, finished by the builder's craftspeople. One head serves the interior. Cabin finishes offer choice of fabrics, wall coverings, and countertops.
