2003 Herreshoff Alerion 26

The 2003 Herreshoff Alerion 26 is a fiberglass sailing yacht built for both traditional day sailing and relaxed cruising. She measures 26 feet in length with a 7.17-foot beam and combines the classic Herreshoff design with a series of modern upgrades. The hull received a fresh Awlgrip finish in 2020, paired with a new Awlgrip mast and boom the same year. Varnished teak brightwork—including rails, cockpit coamings, and cabin trim—is finished to a high standard with ten coats of varnish.

The deck and cockpit feature teak bench seating with four storage lockers, a teak grate sole, and blue Sunbrella cushions. A tan Sunbrella mooring cover protects the space when the boat is idle. The sailing setup prioritizes ease of handling with a self-tending jib system, adjustable mainsheet traveler, and Simrad autopilot. Deck hardware throughout is quality stainless steel, and port and starboard swim ladders are fitted amidship.

Below deck, the cabin maintains a traditional aesthetic with white bulkheads and teak accents. A V-berth with filler cushion, ample storage, and a stainless sink with hand pump accommodate overnight cruising. A manual marine head with enclosure and holding tank selector supports extended time away from the dock. Rigging includes a new Harken roller-furling system installed in 2021, Lewmar self-tailing cockpit winches, and Andersen cabin-top winches. The sail inventory comprises a 2018 North main and self-tending jib in racing condition, a 2020 North 110% furling genoa, and original 2003 cruising sails.

A new Yanmar engine with six hours of operation powers the yacht, paired with a Flex-O-Fold two-blade folding propeller. Navigation and safety equipment includes an iCom VHF radio, depth gauge, compass, and dedicated lighting. Battery banks were updated in 2021 with an onboard charger and solar panel. A 2014 Karavan dual-axle trailer designed for this boat is included and has been used only for transport.
