The 2004 Sabre 42 Express is a Maine-built downeast cruiser powered by twin Yanmar 440-hp diesel engines. She's built on a fiberglass hull with a factory hardback enclosure and the clean, purposeful lines characteristic of Sabre's design heritage. At 10 knots she cruises around 600 nautical miles on fuel burn under 7 gallons per hour; opening the throttles delivers spirited performance, with comfortable running at 20 knots and 2000 RPM yielding roughly 0.74 nautical miles per gallon.
The yacht has two private staterooms and one head. The main living areas—pilothouse and salon—surround the helm with 360-degree air-conditioned views and generous seating. Below, the interior combines quality materials and thoughtful finishes in a layout designed for extended cruising. The pilothouse and salon feature teak decks, and the helm area includes both seating and aft deck space.
Recent work includes engine overhauls completed in November 2022 (engines show 979.7 and 981.8 hours), a rebuilt 11-kw Westerbeke generator, and a steering gear overhaul. The navigation suite has twin Raymarine Axiom+ 12-inch plotters with Garmin Navionics software, a Raytheon AIS system, and new VHF antenna with wiring. The pilothouse, salon, and aft deck received full upholstery replacement; teak decking was refinished in the pilothouse and salon, and external teak trim and swim platform were also refinished. Additional updates include new midships HVAC, a four-zone Fusion audio system, a mast-mounted digital camera, and a remotely steerable searchlight.
