2006 Hunter 38

The 2006 Hunter 38 *Sound Affect* is a fiberglass cruising sailboat built for Pacific Northwest conditions. At 38 feet with a 12.92-foot beam, she offers a two-cabin, one-head layout suited to couples, small families, or entertaining. The design features in-mast furling main and furling genoa, making sail handling straightforward for solo or shorthanded crews. A bow thruster installed in 2022 aids maneuvering in tight harbors and current-swept anchorages.

Below deck, the layout places a forward owner's cabin and an aft guest cabin with a single head featuring a separate shower stall. The main salon is lit by large hull ports, and the U-shaped galley provides working counter space. Headroom is good throughout, with storage for cruising gear and provisions. A new start battery was fitted in 2021.

The Hunter 38 is powered by a single Yammer diesel engine, delivering a cruising speed of 7 knots and a maximum speed of 7.5 knots. The shoal-draft wing keel and fin keel with spade rudder balance stability with access to shallow anchorages, and the steering is responsive under both sail and power. The B&R rig provides a forgiving sail plan suited to variable wind conditions typical of the region.
