2006 MJM 34z Downeast

The 2006 MJM 34z is a 34-foot fiberglass Downeast designed by Doug Zurn that combines purposeful seagoing capability with comfortable weekend accommodations. Powered by a single Yanmar 6LY inline six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 440 hp with just 706 hours, the boat delivers the ride and handling characteristics MJM is known for. The distinctive pilothouse features opening forward windows that hinge upward and full isinglass side curtains that roll up completely, creating flexible shelter or open-air exposure as conditions allow. Visibility from the helm is excellent, with matched Stidd chairs positioned for full command of the boat underway.

The interior layout reflects the sailing background of the designers. The main cabin provides seating for six around a table that drops down to form a sleeping berth for two, with a large refrigerator, electric cooktop, and microwave in the galley to port. The enclosed head forward includes a VacuFlush toilet and substantial storage. Satin-finish cherry woodwork and teak-and-holly flooring throughout create a warm, professional interior. Cherry cabinetry is also fitted in the pilothouse, with the teak sole extending aft to the cockpit.

The aft cockpit opens through a transom door to a swim platform and includes generous bench seating and access to lazarette storage. A powered hydraulic floor hatch beneath the helm chairs provides straightforward engine access. Navigation and helm control are well-organized, with a Raymarine suite that includes E140 GPS chartplotter, radar, autopilot, depth display, and VHF transceiver. Bow and stern thrusters, electric windlass, and a Westerbeke 3.5kw diesel generator round out the mechanical systems. The hull was soda blasted and refinished with multiple coats of Interlux Micron CF bottom paint in 2024.
