The 2009 Hinckley Picnic Boat 37 MKIII defined a category when it first launched—the modern downeast daycruiser. This is hull number 2 of the MKIII generation, the first iteration to introduce twin engines, a deeper-vee hull form, and an expanded interior while preserving the design's signature aesthetic. Built by hand in Maine to Hinckley's exacting standards, the boat combines timeless styling with refined proportions.
The hull is constructed from Hinckley's DualGuard composite system: Kevlar and E-glass outer skin over a carbon-fiber inner skin and balsa core, engineered to 150% of ISO offshore standards. Two Yanmar diesel engines deliver 740 horsepower combined, paired with twin Hamilton waterjets—no conventional props or shafts. The waterjet setup provides a draft just over two feet, allowing the boat to nose onto a beach, operate safely near swimmers, and rotate within her own length at the dock. Cruising speed reaches 32 knots with a maximum speed of 35 knots.
Accommodations include one head and soles of varnished teak and satin-varnished cherry. At 37 feet in length with an 11-foot-3-inch beam, the layout balances open daycruising space with practical amenities. The JetStick propulsion system provides precise maneuvering control throughout the boat's operating range.
