This 2009 Kelsall 58 is a custom-built offshore expedition catamaran designed by renowned multihull designer Derek Kelsall and constructed by Ballotta Catamarans in Peru. Built for autonomous long-range cruising rather than marina comfort, the yacht combines substantial ocean capability with structural strength. Her fiberglass hull and 58-foot length with nearly 30-foot beam provide stability and sea-kindliness for serious offshore work. Twin Volvo Penta D3-110 diesel engines power the catamaran, supported by dual 12 kW Northern Lights generators for extended independent operation.
The boat's systems reflect comprehensive provisioning for extended cruising. Twin watermakers, 1400 watts of solar power, and lithium batteries installed in 2022 ensure self-sufficiency at sea. Hydraulic steering, electric winches, and bow thrusters handle day-to-day maneuvering. A major mechanical and systems refit completed in 2025 included full engine overhauls, engine room renovation, steering and rudder inspections, generator servicing, watermaker maintenance, rigging adjustments, and mainsail repairs. Coppercoat treatment was reactivated and Propspeed applied to underwater surfaces. Air conditioning systems were upgraded.
The galley-up layout maximizes visibility and natural light while supporting full-time living. Four double cabins each have private en-suite bathrooms. The interior prioritizes durability and functionality over short-term charter aesthetics. The yacht has cruised extensively throughout the Caribbean and US East Coast and successfully crossed the Atlantic via Bermuda and the Azores, proving her performance in demanding offshore conditions.
