The Reichel/Pugh 51 is a composite-hulled offshore racing yacht built in 2009 by Australian boatbuilder Mal Hart. At 51 feet in length with a 14.44-foot beam, she combines proven performance with straightforward systems and genuine seaworthiness. Powered by a single Volvo D2-40 diesel engine, the boat has been continuously refined by experienced owners in collaboration with Nelson/Marek Yacht Design, delivering speed comparable to far more complex race platforms without their hydraulic burden or maintenance demands.
The yacht features a curated sail inventory developed with Quantum Sails and focused on offshore performance. Her design emphasizes reliability and simplicity—no elaborate systems, just the essentials needed for ocean racing and coastal competition. The straightforward approach makes her equally at home in major offshore races and regatta circuits, ready to race without extensive preparation.
A significant refit in August and September 2025 included installation of a kelp cutter, replacement of the lower rudder bearing, complete mast service and repaint, partial deck repaint, rudder and keel fairing, offshore boom refit, and comprehensive systems maintenance. The boat's track record spans multiple continents and premier events, including an overall win in the 2010 Sydney Hobart and a division win in the 2013 Fastnet Race, among numerous other successes.
