The Valiant 42 CE is a 42-foot fiberglass sloop designed by Robert H. Perry and built for offshore cruising. This 2010 model combines seaworthy design with a proven track record: a solid fiberglass hull with moderate displacement, deep center cockpit, and cutter rig offer versatility and confidence in heavy weather. The boat carries 24,600 pounds of displacement with 9,500 pounds of lead ballast, drawing roughly 6 feet. A Westerbeke 55-horsepower diesel engine with 1,183 hours powers the yacht, paired with a Max-Prop three-blade feathering propeller and ZF transmission. Fuel consumption runs approximately 0.75 gallons per hour at 2,000 RPM, with cruising speed around 7.8 knots.
The two-cabin, one-head layout centers on the salon accessed via a center companionway. A forward double V-berth provides the primary cabin, while an aft sea berth offers secure offshore sleeping. The galley includes a three-burner stove with oven, SeaFrost refrigeration, and both fresh and saltwater foot pumps. A separate shower stall and LED lighting throughout complete the interior. Cabin headroom reaches 6 feet 6 inches.
Systems are comprehensive. A Northern Lights 5-kilowatt generator, 420-amp-hour AGM house bank, and Xantrex inverter support extended cruising. A Spectra Xtreme 330 watermaker produces 14 gallons per hour. Navigation equipment includes Furuno MFD with radar and AIS, Raymarine autopilot with remote, and an ICOM VHF. The rig carries Quantum sails on a Schaefer furler with electric halyard winch and all lines led aft to the cockpit. Tankage holds 87 gallons of fuel, 94 gallons of fresh water, and 34 gallons in the holding tank.
Recent work includes a new Balmar alternator and regulator, fresh bottom paint, new AGM batteries, fuel polishing, and Northern Lights generator service completed in 2024 and 2025. A Harken hydraulic backstay adjuster, Max-Prop installation, and Dometic reverse-cycle air conditioning were added between 2017 and 2021. Biennial surveys have been performed since 2011. The boat is equipped for passagemaking with dual anchoring systems, windlass, davits, jacklines, and safety gear.
