The Moxie 61 is a 61-foot catamaran built around ultra-light, all-carbon epoxy construction over core-cell foam. Two 160-horsepower Yanmar diesel engines power the boat to a cruising speed of 9 knots and a maximum speed of 10 knots. The hull design derives directly from VPLP's ORMA 60 racing class, refined for both performance and seaworthiness. Distinctive beam-to-beam coach-roof construction expands interior volume and headroom, while a rotating carbon wing mast optimized for weight placement creates a large foretriangle. Carbon dagger-boards and rudders, along with all-textile standing rigging, support the high-performance sailing platform.
The interior accommodates four heads and offers spacious salon, cabin, and bathroom volumes with generous headroom. Large tempered glass windows forward provide unobstructed views from the salon. The layout reflects a focus on both cruising comfort and practicality, with multiple helm stations below and above deck.
Between 2017 and 2023, the yacht underwent extensive mechanical and systems work. New Lorima carbon rotating mast, Future Fibres textile rigging, and North sails were installed. Electronics were comprehensively updated with B&G plotters, radar, wind and speed instruments at multiple stations. Power systems received a new Mastervolt lithium-ion battery pack and 8-kilowatt generator. Two new Yanmar engines replaced the originals, and new sail-drives and rudder bearings were fitted in May 2023. Bottom paint was renewed at the same time. Interior upgrades included new upholstery throughout the salon and cockpit, helm seats with instrument mounts, full cockpit enclosure, bimini covers, enhanced handholds and deck safety features, and replacement of all canvas and covers. New fuel bladders and consolidated water tanks completed the systems work.
