The Dean 5000 is a 50-foot fiberglass catamaran built to ocean-going Category A standards, designed for extended blue-water cruising. Twin 80 hp Yammer diesel engines with recently serviced components power the boat, paired with folding propellers and a bow thruster for easy maneuvering. The hull is 26 feet wide, offering the spacious platform typical of catamarans, with a draft of 1.5 meters suitable for varied anchorages.
The boat is configured as an owner's version with three cabins and three heads across its 15.4-meter length. The main saloon includes climate control, a galley equipped with SMEG appliances and multiple refrigeration units, and entertainment amenities including a piano and television. A dedicated workshop space provides storage and basic tools. The interior received a complete vinyl headliner replacement in 2023.
Power generation and independence are central to the design. A 1000 Ah house battery bank installed in 2024 supports a substantial electrical system backed by approximately 1670 watts of solar panels, a wind generator, and an 8 kW generator. A watermaker produces fresh water on demand. Navigation electronics include a Furuno 14-inch plotter with HD radar, dual autopilot systems, and multiple communication options. The deck carries an aluminum-hull tender with both gasoline and electric motor options, along with offshore fishing and water sports equipment.
The boat has been maintained throughout its history with significant systems upgraded or renewed: engines serviced in 2024, new sails installed in 2024, new battery bank and watermaker in 2024, and extensive other component replacements between 2017 and 2024. The hull was last antifouled in March 2024 with three coats of hard paint.
