The 2013 Ocean Alexander 72 Pilothouse is a full-featured cruising yacht built around the classical pilothouse design refined by Naval Architect Ed Monk Jr. and Hydrodynamicist Ed Hegemann. Twin Caterpillar C18 diesel engines producing 1,136 hp each at 2,300 RPM deliver reliable power, with only 1,400 hours logged. The yacht rides on ZF 550A gearboxes and benefits from Keypower active roll fin stabilizers, a 25 hp proportional bow thruster, and a 15 hp proportional stern thruster for enhanced maneuverability and comfort in various sea states.
The interior features three staterooms arranged forward, each with an ensuite head, plus a third head, providing comfortable accommodations for extended cruising. Sapele wood paneling and cabinetry throughout create a warm, traditional aesthetic. The pilothouse affords commanding visibility and operating control, with a port-side aft deck wing station offering secondary steering and thruster controls.
Power generation comes from two Kohler diesel generators—a 13 kW unit with 1,631 hours and a 23 kW unit with 1,142 hours—both equipped with sound shields and air/water separators. A comprehensive Victron Energy power management system includes a 5 kW inverter/charger, five lithium house batteries, multiple AGM engine and genset batteries, and distributed DC/DC charging architecture. A 450–1,800 gallon-per-day Sea Recovery watermaker and Cruisair 94,000 BTU air-conditioning and heating system support extended offshore operation. Navigation relies on a full Furuno suite with four 19-inch displays and Maretron multifunction color screens; StarLink provides high-speed internet. Additional equipment includes a Maxwell hydraulic windlass, Steelhead Marine deck crane, eight Lumishore underwater LED lights, and an AB 390VST center console RIB tender with Honda 50 hp outboard.
