The 2016 Leopard 48 is a 48-foot fiberglass catamaran built in South Africa with the award-winning design that defines the Leopard line. Twin Yanmar diesel engines of 114 hp each power the boat through Yanmar SD60 gearboxes. The hull features a composite glass-reinforced plastic sandwich construction with balsa core, and the bottom has received a fresh paint job. Balanced spade rudders and multihull keels support blue-water performance and maneuverability.
The layout centers on a large forward cockpit with direct access from the saloon and stairs to the forward platform, plus an expansive aft cockpit with a table. A raised helm station offers panoramic visibility and houses Morse controls. The five-cabin, five-head layout includes cream naugahyde upholstery in the saloon and striped cotton covers in the cabins, with ash laminated marine ply joinery throughout. The galley features an Eno three-burner cooker with grill, double sink, and substantial preparation space.
Recent upgrades completed in 2022 include 1900 watts of solar power, 1080-amp Battle Born lithium batteries, two Victron 2000-watt inverters, a 40-kilo Rocna anchor with bridles, a Blue Water 40 gph water maker, a 5.1 cubic-foot Vitrifrigo refrigerator and freezer, and a 2-burner induction cooktop alongside a multi-function electric oven. The boat carries three Cruisair air conditioning units totaling 40,000 BTU, a Northern Lights 9kW generator, a washer-dryer, and a 12-foot Limin dinghy with 18 hp outboard. Electronics include Raymarine wind, depth, autopilot, and chartplotter systems, plus a Fusion stereo and VHF radio. Engines were serviced in December, with 2190 and 2185 engine hours recorded as of March 2024.
