The Outbound 46 is an offshore cruising sailboat designed by Carl Schumacher, built with solid hand-laid fiberglass and a reputation for capable long-distance voyaging. The hull employs vinylester resin in outer layers to prevent osmosis, while the keel is laminated directly to the hull, eliminating through-bolts. A watertight bulkhead sits seven feet from the bow, and the deep T-shaped aft cockpit features long seating, a walkthrough transom, and substantial storage including a dedicated liferaft locker. The solent rig configuration—with mainsail, 140% genoa, and 75% solant jib from Hood Vectran—is designed for shorthanded crew handling, with control lines leading aft to the cockpit.
The interior is finished in handcrafted teak with a teak-and-holly sole and emphasizes natural light through large windows in the semi-raised salon. The forward master cabin holds a centerline queen with drawers and lockers plus an ensuite head. The aft guest cabin on the starboard side offers a large double berth and standing headroom. A U-shaped galley with Corian countertops, centerline double stainless steel sink, and gimbaled three-burner Force 10 stove sits forward. A dedicated nav station with forward-facing workspace includes easy access to the AC/DC breaker panel.
A standout feature is the utility room accessible via a lift-up cockpit seat, offering a workbench, tool storage, and room for mechanical systems. The boat carries comprehensive electronics including a Raymarine 4kW 24-inch radar, dual Raymarine chart plotters, and Icom SSB and VHF radio systems. Power comes from a Yanmar 4JH80 diesel engine, while a Northern Lights genset (installed new in 2021) backs up house systems. Electrical infrastructure includes Firefly Group 31 lithium house batteries, Xantrex inverter and charger, two 315-watt solar panels, and three Cruisair air-conditioning units with an Espar diesel heater. Ground tackle consists of a Lewmar electric windlass, Rocna 77-pound primary anchor with 200 feet of chain, and a Fortress stern anchor.
