The 2017 Amel 55 is a 55-foot cruising ketch built for extended passages and comfortable offshore living. She combines proven hull design with comprehensive equipment for bluewater sailing, powered by a 110 HP Volvo Penta engine and rigged as a ketch with full sails, masts, and rigging throughout.
The three-cabin layout accommodates cruising families or groups, with sleeping berths fitted with complete bedding sets including mattress covers, sheets, duvets, and pillows. The boat features a purpose-designed cockpit with a hardtop shelter incorporating a sliding rigid extension, panoramic side and front windshields with a central opening, roof hatches, and integrated LED lighting. Interior climate control is provided by air conditioning, heating, and Webasto diesel heating with aerotherm distribution. A full galley includes a dishwasher, and there is a second deep freezer for additional cold storage.
The boat is equipped for self-sufficiency and long-range cruising. A 220V, 240-litre-per-hour desalinator provides fresh water, while power comes from an 11 kW Onan generator, 2500W Mastervolt inverter, 60-amp charger, and 110-amp alternator. Navigation and safety systems include a Furuno Navnet TZT2 radar-plotter with two 15-inch touchscreen displays, Furuno FA50 AIS, dual VHF handsets with loudhailer, and autopilot. A Starlink internet system is installed for offshore connectivity.
Deck equipment includes twin electric windlasses with remote control, an Autoprop feathering folding propeller with line-cutter, and electrical davits with hydraulic gangway. A Zodiac eight-person liferaft, comprehensive safety gear, and scuba diving compressor are aboard. A 3.40-metre Highfield dinghy with 20V Honda outboard is included, along with a second anchor setup and spare parts.
